The fruit and the Date Palm is native to North Africa and the Middle East. The cultivation of the date palm tree spans as far back as five thousand years and is often referred to as the
"Tree of Life".
The tree has been used to weave blankets, make rope and most of all has been a source of food in a place where food can be scarce .
The fruit itself is called the "bread of the desert" as it has helped sustain nomadic tribes that roam the deserts.
